A bellymask is a profound
personal statement about a woman's pregnancy. Although every woman
is different, many share the following reasons for wanting bellymasks.
Our bellymasks are made out of hospital quality plaster gauze. A protective skin barrier such as Vaseline is rubbed onto areas that are to be covered. Small gauze strips are dipped into warm water and placed individually onto body. The gauze is fast drying, which allows the entire process to be completed in approximately one hour. The belly cast is then left to dry, then imperfections are smoothed out and a coat of gesso is added before the painting or embellishments can be added. (see figures 1 and 2)
The choices you can make about your unique bellymask are endless. There are several poses that seem to work well. Some mothers prefer to have only their belly cast, while others want their whole torso including shoulders, breasts, arms, hands, and belly.
We encourage your ideas with regard to the style and appearance of your completed bellymask. Whether your tastes are conservative or out-going, we will work to find a look that is right for you.
Where is the Bellymask Created?
We can cast you in our home studio or in your home. In our studio, you will have the opportunity to see other masks on display and the materials we can work with when adding final decorating touches. We do charge an additional travel fee when traveling to your home.
It is very important to us that you are comfortable during the process. We respect your desire for privacy and modesty. We recommend you bring with you a button down shirt or robe you can wear during the casting. Be aware that plaster may get on this clothing and that it can be difficult to remove. We will provide sheets and towels for additional cover as needed to assure your comfort. (see figure 1 of Photo Gallery)
When Should I Pose For My Bellymask?
Although a bellymask can be made at any time during a pregnancy, the ideal time to pose is around 36-37 weeks gestation. This is still early enough that the mother-to-be can sit for the required time but far enough along to capture a wonderful pregnant form.
How Much
Does This Cost?
Depending on your pose and
the decorations chosen, the prices can range from $65 for an undecorated
cast of just the belly on up.

in a life time occurrence.
